Pat Robertson, Chairman of the Christian Broadcasting Network and former GOP presidential candidate, has raised the ire of Islamists and the wrath of CAIR (Council for American Islamic Relations).

In a broadcast of the 700 Club Monday night, the Virginia Beach pastor said that the massacre at Fort Hood was caused by a politically-correct refusal to recognize the violent nature of the Muslim religion.

“Islam is a violent–I was going to say religion–but it’s not a religion. It’s a political system. It’s a violent political system bent on the overthrow of governments of the world and world domination,” Mr. Robertson told his audience.

“They talk about infidels and all this,” he continued. “But the truth is, that’s what the game is. You’re dealing with not a religion. You’re dealing with a political system. And I think you should treat it as such and treat its adherents as such – - as we would members of the Communist party and members of some Fascist group.”

In the wake of these comments, CAIR and other Islamic groups demanded an apology not only from Mr. Robertson but also Bob McDonnell, Virginia’s governor-elect.

Mr. Robertson was a major contributor to the McDonnell campaign.

The governor-elect received his law degree from Regent University, which is led by Mr. Robertson.

Mr. McDonnell complied with the demand by commenting on the importance of the Muslim community to Virginia.

Ibrahim Hooper, the Executive Director of CAIR, said that McDonnell’s comment “a good statement as far as it went,” but said he did not believe it went far enough in directly disavowing Robertson’s remarks.

“[McDonnell's] sending the message that he wants it both ways–he wants the support of a Muslim-basher. And he wants to work with Virginia Muslims. I think those two things are incompatible,” Mr. Hooper said.

The CAIR Director added that his group is working with Muslims in Virginia to decide how to proceed on the issue.

Meanwhile, the political implications of the Robertson remarks are growing.

Virginia Congressman Gerry Connolly (D) has put out a statement calling on Mr. Robertson to apologize for his comments.

Rep. Connolly said he has heard from hundreds of constituents, both Muslims and others, offended by Robertson’s comments, which came in response to the Fort Hood shootings on an episode of the 700 Club last week.

“My feeling is that if public officials don’t speak out about this, our silence might be misconstrued,” Connolly said. “I, for one, am not going to be silent in the face of that kind of unbridled intolerance.”

I don’t care to much for Robertsons opinions, because I think he is a RINO,but he is dead right on this and I appreciate his saying so.Don’t ever apologize for being right,

  • In the past day or so God has been showing me that we are being “overtaken” from within the higher ranks of our country. If Obama is a Muslim, and I think he is, then this is nothing sort of a take over of our country. Ask yourself the following “Why did he hold up the investigation to the terrorist attack on Ft. Hood? Why is he avoiding sending back-up to Afghanistan? Why did he go visit his brother in China? (on the taxpayer’s dime) There is only one answer that comes to my mind. The man is a Muslim. God Bless and Save The United States of America.
    God Bless Your ministry!

I DO OFTEN AGREE WITH PAT..THIS TIME I DO..TELL CAIR TO PUT THEIR REQUEST WHERE THE SUN DOESN’T SHINE

Let’s consider for a moment the contribution of Christianity, Europe and America to violence:
The Spanish Inquisition – Thousands tortured and burned to death
The Conquest of America – Spanish and Anglo-Saxon colonialists invade the American continent and decimate the indigenous population
The Slave Trade – Christian slave traders displace and cause the deaths of millions of Africans
WWI – Christian nations slaughter millions
Stalin’s Russia – Millions killed in the gulags in Europe
WWII – Sixty Million dead. The Nazis were Europeans/Christians
Japan – Two nukes drop by the USA wipe out hundreds of thousands of civilians in an instant
Vietnam – Carpet bombing of villages, dropping napalm on children, by muslims? No, good Christian Americans
Aghanistan – Thousands of innocents killed
Iraq – 100,000 dead and counting.

I applaud Pat Robertson for his comments… At least someone has the fortitude to stand up and publicly speak the truth!!! BTW, read Revelations in it’s entirety and see the final outcome. All praise and glory to our soon-to-come Lord and Saviour – Jesus Christ (Yashua).

  • Tom says:

Way to go Pat somebody actually told the truth

  • Stanley says:

Robertson was pretty much telling it as it is. Why should politicians care what he said, though? The Left makes ugly accusations about christianity all the time; nobody makes them apologize. They get applauded for it by their own.

  • Mirka says:

    Islam is a cult. Matthew, Stalin was an athiest, not a Christian; slaves were bought from Africa from black African slave traders, WWI was fought in Europe over territory not in the name of God, Japan bombed Pearl Harbor, in Vietnam we were helping to defeat communists from taking over; Afghanistan is a home to Al Quada (remember 9/11, 3500 of Americans died in the name of Allah), Iraq is in the middle of civil war over territory and oil revenues;

  • Ted says:

Islam is a cult which 5 times a day moons heaven to bow to the devil.

  • Nancy Jo says:

No apology needed. Mr. Robertson speaking the truth. Mr. McDonnell do not add one word to what you have already said. Rep. Connelly-remember FREE SPEECH. Pat does not need to apologize, he is telling the truth. Islam is a cult. And you need to understand that.

  • Nate says:

Isn’t it curious that the ENTIRE Christian tradition DEPENDS on an act of violence. In fact—if that one little act of violence never happened, there would be no Christianity.

Do you idiots that are blasting Islam not remember the crucifixion of Jesus? Kind of important to Christianity huh? God didn’t send Christ to the earth to live a long and happy life, retire from his carpentry career at age 70, and live as a happy old man playing with his grandchildren until his death by natural causes at 80.

    No.

God intended for Jesus to be beaten, bruised, abused, tormented, harassed, ridiculed, mocked and then nailed to a cross where he hung until he breathed his last breath.

And that, my friends, is the point of departure by which the entire Christian religion is centered.

So—we can see that you all appear to have selective amnesia or if not, are just simply ignorant of history and incredibly hypocritical.
