OIL PRICES TO SKYROCKET

Iran is the fourth-largest oil producing country in the world; yet, it is now running out of gas.

The Shiite country lacks the refining capacity to transform their oil reserves into gasoline or diesel.

In order to meet the demands of domestic consumption, Teheran must import 130,000 to 150,000 barrels of gasoline, diesel, jet fuel, and other refined petroleum products a day.

Without such imports, the Iranian economy would be crippled; air transport would be brought to a standstill; trains and buses would stop running; out-fired power plants would go dark; and trucks delivering vital supplies to cities would remain parked in garage warehouses.

The problem has been greatly exacerbated by the economic sanctions against Iran which President Obama signed into law on July 1.

The sanctions impose stiff penalties on any company – - foreign and domestic – - that delivers refined petroleum products to Iran or that assists the Iranian government with domestic refining.

Royal Dutch Shell, India’s Reliance Industries, Russian oil-giant Lukoil, Malaysia’s Petronas, and Swiss independent oil trader Glencore have halted sales of gasoline and refined oil to Teheran.

Lloyd’s of London – - which accounts for 20% of the global marine insurance market – - will no longer insure or reinsure petroleum shipments to Iran.

The problem is further complicated by the decision of the Ahmadinejad regime to secure public support by subsidizing the cost of domestic fuel prices. Motorists in Teheran pay less than $.35 a gallon for gasoline – - about one-seventh of the costs for Americans.

As a gesture of solidarity with Iran, Venezuela’s President Hugo Chavez pledged to supply 20,000 barrels of gasoline a day. But Chavez has been unable to keep this promise since three of his largest refineries are located in the United States.

The only solution for the Iranian government in this current crisis, according to economist Bob Czeschin, resides in its attempt to cut off oil supplies to the West by blocking the narrow Strait of Hormuz through which thousands of freighters carrying one third of the world’s oil supplies pass every day.

This plan could be implemented with little or no difficulty. Czeschin explains: “A couple of tankers sunk in the right place could easily close the Strait and cut off those supplies. So could anti-shipping mines – - which Iran has in abundance.”

Only by such tactics, Czeschin and other economists believe, can President Ahmadinejad ward off the possibility of a popular uprising, if not civil war.

In any case, the current situation is certain to cause oil prices to skyrocket and the lives of middle-class Americans to undergo an immediate and drastic transformation.

SMALL PRICE FOR U.S. CITIZENSHIP

The Marmara Manhattan, a Turkish-owned luxury hotel on New York’s City Upper East Side, markets birth tourism packages to expectant mothers abroad.

It’s a hellava deal.

For $7,750 plus taxes, the hotel offers expectant mothers – - many from Third World countries – - a one-bedroom suite with airport transfer, a baby cradle, and a gift set for the mother.

In addition, the baby will become an automatic U.S. citizen with all the rights and privileges thereof, including social security, public welfare, the ability to travel freely to and from the United States, easy access to a U.S. education, and the right to vote.

The greatest advantage to the offer comes with the ability of the citizen child to later sponsor the legal immigration of his or her entire family permanently to this country.

Most women stay for two months, Marmara Hotel spokeswoman Alexandra Ballantine said, and they make medical arrangements on their own. “Guests arrange and pay for these by themselves,” she said of hospital costs that can approach $30,000.

“We found a company on the Internet and decided to go to Austin [Texas] for our child’s birth,” Turkish mother Selin Burcuoglu told Istanbul’s Hurriyet Daily News. “I don’t want [my daughter] to deal with visa issues. American citizenship has so many advantages.”

The “birth tourism” industry, which is difficult to track and remains largely anecdotal, has been on the rise for years, according to government and participants reports.

The Marmara Hotel is owned and operated by Kiska Construction and Development. The international firm, which is headquartered in Ankara, Turkey, is led by Oguz Gursel, who has alleged ties to the Gulen movement.

The director of Kiska’s American operations is Erden Arkan,a Turkish national.

NIX TO PALESTINIAN STATE

Americans, by a significant margin, believe the United States should support Israel in its conflict with Palestinians, a poll released today shows.

80% of those polled agree with the statement, “Enemies of America use the Palestinian-Israeli conflict as an excuse to create anti-American sentiment. Even if the dispute is settled, they would find another excuse to justify their hostility towards America.”

The poll was commissioned by The Israel Project Foundation.

In addition, 73 % maintain the Palestinian-Israeli conflict is about religion not land, the poll said.

Asked about Iran’s nuclear program, 64 % believe Iran will pursue a goal of destroying Israel, and 80 percent say it would make it easier for terrorist groups to gain access to nuclear weapons.

The survey was conducted March 19-20 with 811 registered voters.

The margin of error is plus or minus 3.5 percentage points.

FAU PROFESSOR AND BOCA MOSQUE DIRECTOR, BASSEM ALHALABI, SUBJECT TO ARREST

Tallahassee, FL) A warrant has been filed for Bassem Abdo Alhalabi, the individual who attacked Americans Against Hate (AAH) Chairman Joe Kaufman and another individual earlier this month, during Muslim Capitol Day in Tallahassee, Florida.

Alhalabi, an associate professor at Florida Atlantic University (FAU) and a director of the Islamic Center of Boca Raton (ICBR), was charged with one count of battery.

According to an official from the Leon County State Attorney’s office, Alhalabi needs to turn himself in or he is subject to arrest.

On March 11, 2010, Alhalabi grabbed Kaufman’s arm in the Rotunda (lobby) of the Florida State Capitol Building. The incident was caught on camera.

Alhalabi was in Tallahassee as a member of United Voices for America (UVA), a political front for the Hamas-related Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR). UVA’s event was titled ‘Muslim Capitol Day.’

The other attack perpetrated by Alhalabi, which happened about an hour after the assault on Kaufman, is still pending. During that attack, Alhalabi violently grabbed the video camera of cameraman Mark Campbell.

Prior to these incidents, Alhalabi, in June 2003, was found guilty of illegally exporting a $13,000 military-grade thermal imaging device to Syria, a state sponsor of terrorism.

Additionally, when Alhalabi applied for a position at FAU, he used convicted terrorist Sami al-Arian as a reference.
